Well Shine Biotech’s Green Pivot to High-End Medical Materials
Driven to Create a Trillion-NTD Dollar Green Opportunity
Founded in 1987, Well Shine Biotech first established its reputation by producing health supplements from Ganoderma and Antrodia camphorata.
Under the leadership of Chairman Lan Tsang-Chou and COO Lan Chung-Min, the company has undergone a significant transformation over the past decade. By investing heavily in research and development, they have pioneered the extraction of mushroom-based biopolymers, positioning the company as a leader in Taiwan's high-performance medical materials sector.
The inspiration for this innovation came unexpectedly when both brothers experienced injuries and used Antrodia camphorata powder on their wounds, observing rapid healing. Subsequent studies confirmed that chitin, a natural component of mushroom cell walls, can be refined into dressings that are biocompatible, antimicrobial, and non-adhesive
After more than ten years of collaboration with research institutions, Well Shine achieved a breakthrough in 2018, increasing the extraction rate from 1% to 33%. By 2025, they had established stable mass production at their Yilan Science Park facility, which holds ISO22000, HACCP, and Halal certifications.
Beyond medical applications, these mushroom-derived biopolymers offer sustainable alternatives to animal-based materials, addressing concerns about pathogens and environmental impact. Rigorous in-house cultivation and quality control ensure product safety and purity. This strategic evolution not only strengthens Taiwan's self-reliance in advanced medical materials but also supports global efforts toward greener, more sustainable solutions.
